Day 214 (Saturday 11/06) - Whitsundays Trip Day 2

Wake up around 7am.
We have a quick breakfast (cereals, toasts, coffee).

We then take the small boat to get to the island, on the famous Whitehaven beach.
(on the way to the beach we will see in the water some turtles and rays)

Unfortunately it's raining, and we will not see the beach how it's supposed to be ...
The beach is famous for it's white sand, which is apparently the finnest in the world (when trying to take some, it just "disappear".
This sand is apparently pure sillica, and was used to make the lens of the Hubble telescope ...

The water is perfectly turquoise.

Even with the bad weather, we see how special and beautiful this beach is ...
We imagine how incredible it must be in perfect weather.
From the beach we walk to the Whitehaven Lookout.
The walk is quite short, in the rainforest, nothing really exceptionnal.

Once at the lookout, the view is quite nice, but as it's cloudy and raining, again, it's not as good as it should be ... (we should be able to see islands all around, as far as the horizon - we don't see much)

After that, we go back to the beach for a bit.
(when the weather is good, we're supposed to stay there for hours)

We then get back on the Southern Cross, and leave for Tongue Bay.Once there, we go on the small boat again, and explore the bay trying to see turtles, we won't see any ...

The next stop is at Hook Island, where we go at the Beach Resort.
The place looks completely abandonned, it's quite special (it's not abandonned, but looks a bit crappy, and there's nobody as the weather is bad).
There's only one guy there, the bar tender ...

We stay there for a while, walking to a lookout where we see some turtles coming out of the water to breathe, we get some coconuts and try to get their juice (not easy), and play the "hook" game (swing a hung ring and try to make it get into a hook).

After that, we sail to Maureen Cove, where we will stay for the night.

We spend the evening in the cabin.
(the group is really good, and we're having a lot of fun)
