Day 190 (Wednesday 18/05) - Darwin

Wake up at 9:30am.

I go for a coffee at the terasse. On one of the screens there's the replay of the game Arsenal - Aston Villa. I watch the 60 first minutes (not good for ARS ...).

I then leave as I have to meet Chantal, Michael and Jeong Ah at Crocodile Cove, where we've planned to go today.

I can't find it straightforward, and end up going up and down the street to find it (it's number 68, but there's hardly no numbers on the buildings ...
I finally find it, but I'm a bit late (it's 11:15am, we had rendez-vous at 11am ...).
But as I get to the entrance, I see just in front of me Chantal and Michael that are queeing to buy a ticket.
They see me and tell me they're also late, but still on time for the crocodile feeding show at 11:30am.
They haven't seen Jeong Ah, she's maybe already inside.

Once inside, we immeidately go to where the show is, and it quickly starts.
There's nothing really spectacular about it, the crocodiles are a bit lazy ... (and also we were expecting to see the jumping crocodiles, but they're not doing that here)
One of the crocodile is the one that "played" in Crocodile Dundee.
There's also a couple, where the female is much smaller than the male.

The show ends with people (anyone who wants) feeding baby crocodiles with fishing rods. It's funny to look at, how the babies are already agressive, but still clumsy.

After the show, I walk around the "zoo"/"park" (?) and go to the reptile gallery.
It's the biggest Australian reptiles collection in the world, and it is indeed really impressive (lots of lizards, geckos, snakes, etc.).

While walking around I see Jeong Ah, she couldn't make it earlier.
There's another feeding show later on, so she won't miss anything.

Before I've seen all of the reptiles, there's another show that is starting, that I go to see with Jeong Ah.
It's the reptile feeding show (actually it's only one snake who's given a dead rat to eat).
There's a camera filming it, and the video is displayed with a beamer.
A guy explains what's going on, as well as giving information about snakes in general.
Once the snake is fed, there's a slide show about reptiles, and mainly about the King Toad, the worst ennemy of Australia's nature (a big frog introduced by Europeans to get rid of beetles and worms - but in the end, the frog eats everything except what she is supposed to ... Good job).

At the end of the show, we can go back to the reptile gallery to see some other reptiles being fed, and to hold a reptile or snake.
The lizards and geckos are fed by throwing in their "cage" some living cockroaches, that are immediately chased and eaten.
It's quite funny to watch (even if it's not very beautiful).

After that we can hold some of them : a young python, a blue tongue lizard, and a little gecko (forgot the precise names).
I go for all of them (it's a bit weird to hold them, but it's quite fun).

After this I finish my tour in the reptile gallery, there are so many, and they're so fascinating to look at.

Afterwards, the crocodile feeding show starts again, but this time there's also a guy doing the "Cage Of Death" (a guy in a glass cage, going into the water with crocodiles).

It could be amazing, and I was interested in doing it, but in the end it doesn't look good : the crocodiles don't care at all about the cage, and don't go close to it ... (so there's nothing about it, and it's also really expensive).

So I'm glad I didn't do it.

After the show, with Jeong Ah we go to feed the baby crocodiles (Chantal told us it was fun and that we should try).
And it's indeed quite funny. I tease them by swinging the rod and making them jump (and most of the time miss their targets).

We then can go to hold a baby crocodile, a female.
(I don't have the picture, have to wait for Jeong Ah to send it to me)

After that we wait in front of the aquarium to see the fish feeding show (which we where wondering how it could be).
But the show is cancelled as they're cleaning the aquarium.
In the aquarium there are some saw fishes, mantas, barramundis (the local star) and some other special fishes.

We then leave, and go to the shop, where we see Linda and Julie that were there wondering around.

Then, with Jeong Ah, we go for a walk at the waterfront.
We also go along the harbour, and she shows me the Deckchair open air cinema she went to yesterday with the others.
They have a good selection of movies (both recent and older, and both local and international).
We then walk to a park, where we sit at a lookout to watch the sun set.
It's really pleasant, the temperature is pefect (hot, but good).
With Jeong Ah we talk about many things, she's really nice.
Once the sun is set, we walk back to the centre.
Jeong Ah has to go to the Airport Shuttle shop to book seat for her flight tomorrow (she's flying back to Sydney, where she's been living for a while - but she will now go back to Korea in a week).

We then go to the Monsoons for a beer, where we had more or less planned to meet the others.
First Chantal and Michael join us, then Ramona and Kaori, and finally Linda and Julie.
We have a good time there, it's a really good group.

It was a really good day.
