Day 181 (Monday 09/05) - Adventure Tours Day 8

Wake up at 5:50am.

After breakfast we head down to the valley to see the sunrise on the cliffs.
It's really beautiful (the sky is perfect blue, and the cliffs are red).

We then get in the truck and head to the Ochre Pits, a sacred place where the aboriginals were extracting their powder to make paintings.

On the road we see some wild horses in the plains, there are lots of them in the area.
Our next stop is Palm Valley.

To get there we have to make 20km of really tough road.
Everything in the truck jumps around, it's really strong (and fun).

After this great ride, we finally get to Palm Valley, where we go for the Arankaia Walk.
It's a 2km walk in the valley, the scenery is gorgeous.
The sun is burning, there are palm trees everywhere, it's beautiful.

After the walk, we drive back to a shelter where we stop for lunch.
We're having sandwiches/wraps (that we had prepared this morning before leaving).

We then drive the 20km back, and again it's a lot of fun.

We then head to Hermannsburg, for a short break. It's a 100% aboriginal village, there's not much to do or to see.
We're not staying for long.
(a funny detail : in the main shop, they sell clothes, and the only branded one that I see is a Liverpool shirt ... hehehe, so funny, in the middle of nowhere)

We then take the road to Alice Springs.
On the way we see some more wild horses and dingos.

We finally get to Alice Springs, and head up straight to Anzac Hill from where we have a nice view on the whole city.

After that, John drops us at our hostel, the "Haven".
I check-in and go to my room, where I see Kine and Katrina !
In the room there's also 2 Dutch girls, 1 German girl, and an English couple.

For dinner John has booked a table at Toddy's at 8pm.
With Liz, Liv & Tur, we head to the restaurant.

On the way, the only ATM we find is in a hospital (!?).
As we're already a bit late, Liv & Tur continue to the restautant as Liz and I go in the hospital.
We have to cross the entire hospital to get to the ATM.
We only see some aboriginal people.
When we get back, the doors are closed ...
We see a small sign saying that we need to use the emergency door to leave.
After a while wandering around trying to find the exit, we finally find a door that leads us out.
The problem is that we're now in a small courtyard without exit !
(and the door from where we came is now closed, and has no outside handle ...)
To get out we have to move a fence and climb a small wall, to finally end up in the street (so convenient for an emergency exit !)

We then go to Toddy's where we meet up with John, Liv & Tur (they didn't have to wait to long, and had a beer to help them).
For dinner I have a Parmi Schnitzel.
It's good and pretty cheap.

After that, John takes us in his car to drop us at Ani's Place, where we planned to meet the others from the previous group.
John has difficulties finding the street (even though Alice is really small). :-)

We finally get there, where we meet most of the others (Kade and some of his local friends are here, Tom, Luke and his girlfriend, as well as Byron, the Flemish girls and Mike - Kine & Katrina will get there a bit later, a bit drunk ...)

We stay there for a while, even when the bar closes, we can stay on the terrasse (it's a hostel with bar).
(had to bring Kine back to the hostel as she was too drunk, and falling asleep)

We then leave the terrasse and go back to the hostel (at around 4:30am), staying a bit in Liz and Kade's room to chat (with Katrina and Byron that will stay there : Katrina is too tired to move to our room, and Byron stays in another hostel a bit far, so isn't motivated, and not advised to leave - it can be very dangerous to walk by night in Alice).
It has been a really good night, we had a lot of fun, and half of the people we were with were Ozzies (which is rare !)
