Day 175 (Tuesday 03/05) - Adventure Tour Day 2

Wake up at 7am.
Breakfast (toast, cereals, fruits, juices, tea, coffee).

Today the sky is totally clear, the sun is shining.

We leave the hostel at 8am.
(we're staying here on more night, so we don't have to pack everything and checkout)

In the bus, first thing Luke told us to do is to fasten our seatbelts, as he can be forced to break brutally to avoid kangoaroos and emus ... (they're quite stupid)
The road is most of the time an endless straight line through huge flat land, covered with desert and bushes.
(it's beautiful, but not very diverse)

We make a stop at Hawker, to get some snack for those who wants, some coffee, and to go to the toilet.
Hawker is the central place to go and explore the Flinders Ranges.
(we stop in an all purpose shop that does post office, souvenirs shop, grocery, bottle shop, pub, bakery, etc.)

We then head into the Flinders Ranges, which are apparently the oldest geological site in the world.
On the way, we have the chance to see a "Wedge Towel" Eagle (? - need to check the name), which is a huge eagle (up to 2.5m wide) - the 4th biggest eagle in the world.
He was eating a dead kangaroo, and took off as we approached. He stayed for a few meters flying next to the bus, before heading away ... Really impressive !
(unfortunately, I couldn't take any photo, wasn't quick enough, and was watching it)
We also see some kangaroos and emus.

We then arrive at the most famous site in the area : Wilpena Pound.
We go for a walk there. It's a long walk, with nice lookouts. It's really beautiful.
Along the walk, we have some good talks (mainly with Kine, Katrina and Byron).

We get to see some animals as usual : loads of Kangaroos, some goats, and some lizards.

After the walk, we all meet at the parking, where Luke has stayed to prepare lunch.
Today we're having burritos.

After lunch, and information centre/shop/toilet stop, we head to another site : the Yourambulla Caves, to see some aboriginal paintings (or more preciselly painted messages).
There's a short walk to get up to there. The site is really beautiful.

Luke gives us some information on these paintings and on the aboriginal tribes.

We then head to Old Kanyako, ruins of an old homestead.

After that, we head back to the hostel in Quorn, where we are given some free time before dinner.

For dinner we're having chicken with rice and a vegetable stew.

After the dishwashing we chill all together, chatting and playing cards (I spend most of the time talking to Kine).

We then go to sleep quite early.
