Day 221 (Saturday 18/06) - Fraser Island 2/3

Wake up around 9am.
For breakfast we're doing some eggs with toasts (we have a small gas heater for each group).
Around 9:30am we get in the vehicles and leave the camp.

The first stop this morning is the famous shipwreck of Fraser Island.

After that, we stop a bit further at Eli Creek.
We stay there for a while, waiting for the low tide.
There's not much to see there, but it's still beautiful, and there's a hot water spring, it's pleasant.

We spend most of the time on the beach, chilling.

Once the tide has gone down, we head to Indian Head.

There's a short walk from the beach to the top of the hill.

From there we have a nice view on part of Fraser's beach, and on the forest and some sand dunes.
It's beautiful.

In the ocean we spot at the horizon some whales (only their tail and fins - from very far).
We also see a shark swimming quite close to the beach (from where we are it looks really small, but is apparently around 4-5m !).
We also see some turtles.

Going back to the beach, I walk with Andy and stay a bit with him (most of the others stayed longer on top of the hill, trying to spot more whales).

We then get back in the vehicles (and wait a while for a guy who disappeared : he took the wrong path when coming back and got lost in the bush ...), and drive to the other side of the beach to have another view of the rock.

We stay there for lunch (wraps).

The next stop is at the Champagne Pools, once again, it's beautiful, the water is amazing ...

We stay there for a while, and spot a small octopus in one of the pools (some guy even dives in the pool to catch it - have some difficulties doing it, but still succeeds).
(I don't have picture as my camera was having problem at that moment ... I will try to get some from the others)

With the 3 Germans, we go for a walk a bit further, on the bext beaches (separated by rocks).
It's beautiful, and it's so good to be alone on a beach ...

When driving back, we stop (on the beach) to pick up some shells.
Shane, the guide, shows us how to get them : when you see a "bubble" in the sand, dig a bit, and you'll find a shell.
Everybody goes for some "shell picking", it's fun.
We put them all in a big pot, we'll eat them tonight.

Once back to the camp, I go on the beach with Tobias, and this time my camera.
We're quickly joined by some others. We stay there talking and enjoying the beauty of the scenery ... (always this same beach, but it's so special)

(there we get to know Charlie, a French guy from another group)

When going back to the camp, Juliet has prepared dinner (she didn't mind, and didn't wait for us, so we didn't have anything to do).
It's chicken with rice and chilli sauce. It's pretty good !

We then stay at the table, meeting some new people from other groups and from other tours.

In our coolbox, we find some goon and food that doesn't belong to us ... But as it's there, and nobody claims for it, we drink the goon ...
("goon" is Australia"s famous cheap wine)
(on the goon, there's "Lars" written - Thanks Lars)

Later on, Marion and a few others cook the shells.

There's a lot of them, so everybody can have some.

I only get a few, as I don't really like them (it's well cooked but it mainly tastes salt, and sand ...).
We meet some funny guys (a group of Canadians), there's the birthday of one of the Brit guys in our tour.

Lot of fun.

At 9:30pm, as the light shuts, we all go to the beach.

We spend a lot of time there, talking, some playing guitar, drinking, and having fun.

We then get back to the camp, and again I sleep in the tent with Marion and Fanny.
(it's even colder than the night before !)
